UCLA won three straight MPSF road contests over the weekend, defeating No. 10 UC Irvine (13-3), No. 16 CS Northridge (10-5), and No. 14 Long Beach State (19-7). Senior Jillian Kraus totaled nine goals on the trip, including a team-leading four in Long Beach and three in Irvine. Junior Katie Rulon added a hat trick vs. the Matadors. The top-ranked Bruins (3-0 MPSF/13-0 overall)again play Northridge, to open the UCI Invitational Saturday (Feb. 23) at 9 am. Arizona State or Loyola Marymount will be the following opponent later that day.

USC avenged last week's loss to Arizona State, with an 11-5 MPSF win in Tempe Sunday. The Trojans got off to a quick start with a 3-0 first quarter and 6-1 lead at the half. Junior Michelle Stein scored a hat trick in that game, adding to her total from a four-goal effort at UC Irvine the day before, as USC also beat the No. 10 Anteaters 10-3 in a conference game. The third-rankedTrojans face Michigan in their first UCI Invite game Saturday, to be followed by either San Diego State or UC Davis.

SAN DIEGO STATE is off to its best start in the 13-year history of the program with a 10-0 record, winning five more games at the Princeton Invitational. The sixth-ranked Aztecs topped No. 15 Michigan (10-9), No. 19 Princeton (11-6), and Bucknell (13-8)Saturday, and then No. 18 Indiana (12-6) and George Washington (11-3) Sunday. Junior Anna Gonzales scored a hat trick in both Sunday wins, as well as in the Princeton game. Junior Erinn Greenwood totaled 10 goals in five games. San Diego State takes on UC Davis in Irvine Saturday, followed by either USC or Michigan.

STANFORD raced out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter vs. Pacific Saturday, and went on for a 16-2 MPSF home win. Eight players scored for the No. 2 Cardinal, led by hat tricks from junior Lauren Silver, sophomore Kelly Eaton, and junior Koree Blyleven. The Cardinal also knocked off No. 11 UC Davis 15-7, as Silver added four goals. Stanford is paired up with UC San Diego to open the UC Irvine Invite Saturday, and will also play either San Jose State or the host Anteaters later that day.

LONG BEACH STATE split two MPSF home games this past weekend, 10-6 over No. 12 UC Santa Barbara, and a 19-7 loss to No. 1 UCLA. In Saturday's win, the 49ers scored six goals in the third quarter to open up a 3-2 halftime lead. Senior Dayna Wawrzynski scored a hat trick in that game and freshman Kristen Straiger combined for 22 saves in two games. The 49ers take on Hawaii and either California or UCSB on day one of the UCI Invite Saturday.

PACIFIC picked up its second win this year, 19-2 at home over Fresno Pacific, as senior Kellie Fletcher tallied six goals. She went on to score 11 for the weekend, as the Tigers lost to No. 11 UC Davis (15-7) and at No. 2 Stanford (16-2). Pacific heads to the Sonoma State Tourney Sat-Sun. (Feb. 23-24), where it meets UC Santa Cruz, CS East Bay, Cal Lutheran, and Sonoma St.

UC IRVINE hosted No. 1 UCLA and No. 3 USC this past weekend, and fell 13-3 and 10-3 respectively. Senior Jessica Lewis scored twice in the second period vs. the Trojans to give her team a brief 3-2 lead. Senior Lauren Machanis had nine saves in that game. Junior Sarah Frost scored twice vs. the Bruins. UCI hosts an invitational this Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 23-24), in which it opens with San Jose State, but first welcomes UCSB for an MPSF contest Friday (Feb. 22).

ARIZONA STATE could not repeat its biggest upset win in program history from a week earlier, as the No. 8 Sun Devils fell 11-5 to No. 3 USC in the home opener Sunday in Tempe. First-year player Lauren Hayes was the lone multiple-goal scorer with two. Conference action continues at home Wednesday (Feb. 20) as Hawaii visits, followed by a trip to the UCI Invitational.

CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE lost 10-5 to top-ranked UCLA in its home opener Saturday. The No. 16 Matadors were only down 4-3 at halftime. Sophomore Jillian Stapf posted eight saves in the cage, while senior Dayna Van Gorder led the team with two goals. CS Northridge heads to the UCI Invite this weekend (Feb. 23-24) and again meets the Bruins, followed by ASU or LMU. UC

SANTA BARBARA dropped its MPSF opener at No. 14 Long Beach State, 10-6 last Saturday. Junior Gillian Morgan led the 12 th -ranked Gauchos with two goals, while senior Jenny Gonzales picked up seven saves in the cage. UCSB will be in Irvine all weekend, first taking on the Anteaters in a conference game Friday (Feb. 22), followed by the UCI Invitational (Feb. 23-24).

HAWAII travels to Arizona State Wednesday (Feb. 20) for MPSF action after a bye week, and will then compete at the UCI Tournament. The Rainbow Wahine first play Long Beach State Saturday (Feb. 23), followed by either California or UCSB.

CALIFORNIA did not play last week, and is matched up with UC Santa Barbara Saturday in its opening game at UC Irvine. The Bears face Hawaii or Long Beach State for their second game Saturday.

SAN JOSE STATE was off this past week and takes on the host UC Irvine in its first game at the UCI Invitational Saturday. Stanford or UC San Diego will be the second opponent for the seventh-ranked Spartans.

KRAUS AND STEIN NAMED MPSF MIKASA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Woodland, Calif. - UCLA senior Jillian Kraus (Tustin, CA/Foothill HS) combined for a team-high nine goals in three MPSF road wins last weekend, including game-bests of four at Long Beach State and three at UC Irvine. She has scored in each the Bruins' 13 games this year. .... USC junior Michelle Stein (Palm Desert, CA/Palm Desert HS) totaled seven goals in a pair of MPSF road wins at UC Irvine and Arizona State. She scored four of the Trojans' final eight goals in Irvine and followed up with three in Tempe, helping to avenge an earlier loss to the Sun Devils.
