MARINA MAYO OF FSU MPSF OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Fresno State sophomore midfield Marina Mayo (Park City, UT) scored a career-high five goals on six shots (.833) to lead the Bulldogs to a 14-13 win at California (Apr. 6). She also had one ground ball and was 1-1 in free position shots. Down 7-4 at halftime, Mayo scored three consecutive goals in the second half to secure a 12-8 lead going into the last 10 minutes. She added two ground balls and two caused turnovers against No. 13 Stanford (Apr. 8). This is the second career MPSF weekly honor for Mayo, earning a rookie recognition in 2017. GRACE RICHARDS OF UCD MPSF DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

UC Davis junior goalkeeper Grace Richards (Bel Air, MD) had a career-high 13 saves with a caused turnover and two ground balls in a 15-9 MPSF win at San Diego State (Apr. 8). Two of her stops came in the Aggies’ 7-0 run to finish the contest (four total shots faced). She also had nine saves in 52:14 at No. 13 Stanford, as well as an MPSF season-high tying six ground balls. She finished the week with 22 saves, a .468 save percentage and a team-best eight ground balls. This is the second career MPSF weekly award for Richards, both this year. MAR ALVEAR OF UCD MPSF ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

UC Davis freshman midfield Mar Alvear (Oakland, CA) shot 2-for-2 with a caused turnover, a ground ball and two draw controls in a 15-9 MPSF victory at San Diego State (Apr. 8). The two goals started what became a run of seven unanswered Aggie tallies to finish the game. The first tied the contest at 9-9, then the second was the go-ahead 35 seconds later, giving UC Davis the lead for good at 10-9. She also had one caused turnover, draw control, and ground ball at No. 13 Stanford (Apr. 5). This is the second career MPSF weekly award for Alvear, repeating the honor from last week. AGGIES FINISH BIG FOR CONFERENCE ROAD WIN

UC DAVIS (1-0 MPSF/6-5 Overall) won the first of its two MPSF games this past Sunday (Apr. 8) at San Diego State, 15-9. The Aggies broke a 6-6 halftime tie with a 9-3 second half run. UCD also closed the game with seven unanswered goals. Amanda Outcalt scored four goals, while Taylor Cuenin recorded four goals and an assist, after picking up four ground balls in an 18-6 loss at No. 13 Stanford (Apr. 5). Grace Richards tallied a career-high 13 saves in the conference win and totaled eight ground balls for the week, including an MPSF season-high tying six at Stanford. UC Davis visits Fresno State Wednesday (Apr. 11) in a non-conference game.

FRESNO STATE (0-0 MPSF/9-5 Overall) edged California 14-13 on the road (Apr. 6), tying the program record for most wins in a season (9). The Bulldogs stormed back from a 7-4 halftime deficit. Marina Mayo put away a career-high five goals, including a natural hat trick over an eight-minute span in the second half, while Sarah Bloise added three goals in the win. Tiffiny Wallace scored twice and dished three assists. Hannah Krats recorded five draw controls and four ground balls. FSU hosts UC Davis (Apr. 11), followed by an MPSF home game vs. SDSU (Apr. 15).

SAN DIEGO STATE (0-1 MPSF/8-6 Overall) dropped a 15-9 MPSF game to UC Davis (Apr. 8), the Aztecs’ final regular season home game. SDSU will return home, however, for the MPSF Tournament (Apr. 27-29). Mackenzie Lech accumulated three ground balls and four caused turnovers. Harlowe Steele had two goals and three draw controls. The Aztecs visit USC Friday (Apr. 13) and then play their second and final conference game Sunday (Apr. 15) at Fresno State.
