Stanford Visits Colorado; UCD's Cuenin Ties Record

No. 6 COLORADO (3-0 MPSF/11-1 Overall) extended its program-record start and record win streak to 11 games with a 9-7 win at Delaware (Mar. 29), before No. 5 Stony Brook handed the No. 4 Buffs their first loss last Friday (Mar. 31), 10-6. Kelsie Garrison totaled four ground balls, two draw controls and three caused turnovers for the week. Cali Castagnola compiled five goals and one assist, including a hat trick in the win (3-for-3 on shots on goal). Darby Kiernan’s 84 draw controls this year ranks fifth in MPSF single-season history. Johnna Fusco is the ninth MPSF player all-time to reach 150 career goals. No. 6 Colorado hosts Stanford Friday (Apr. 7) in a battle of MPSF unbeatens.

STANFORD (2-0 MPSF/7-3 Overall) made it six-straight wins with an exciting 10-9 comeback win at Harvard (Mar. 28), following a 17-day layoff. The Cardinal was down 8-4 with 20 minutes left in the game, and went on a 5-0 run to take the lead. The Crimson tied the game at 9, before Elizabeth Cusick nailed the game-winner with two ticks on the clock, the last of her four goals. Cusick added a hat trick at Yale (Apr. 1). Anna Salemo compiled three goals (all in the win), three caused turnovers, and five ground balls for the week. Daniella McMahon totaled two assists, four ground balls and three caused turnovers in the win. Stanford travels to No. 6 Colorado Friday (Apr. 7) in a battle of MPSF unbeatens.

UC DAVIS (1-2 MPSF/5-7 Overall) Taylor Cuenin tied an MPSF record of eight caused turnovers in an 8-5 win at Mount St. Mary’s (Mar. 30). She had a career-high six ground balls at Drexel (Apr. 2). Cuenin totaled six goals, 13 caused turnovers, 12 ground balls and six draw controls in three games last week. Her 42 caused turnovers this year is an Aggie single-season record, and she is eight away from becoming the third MPSF player all-time to reach 50 in a season. UC Davis visits Fresno State Saturday (Apr. 8) in MPSF action.

No. 9 USC (3-0 MPSF/9-3 Overall) won a pair of MPSF home games, 21-5 over Fresno State (Mar. 31) and 21-4 over California (Apr. 2), and head to San Diego State Saturday (Apr. 8). The Trojans extended their home winning streak to 22-straight games and a second-longest all-time MPSF winning streak to 13. Michaela Michael scored six goals vs. Cal and four vs. Fresno State, giving her 196 in her career, and moving into sole possession of third-place in MPSF history (seven away from No. 2). She also moved into fifth-place all-time in the MPSF in points with 258. Michael also totaled 17 draw controls, 11 vs. the Bulldogs. Kaeli Huff tallied a career-high five goals against Fresno State.

FRESNO STATE (1-3 MPSF/8-4 Overall) Kyleigh Westgarth collected six draw controls and Kayla Galet scored twice at USC (Mar. 31). One goal by Tiffiny Wallace gave her 31 on the year to lead the team. Fresno State won an MPSF home game Monday (Apr. 3) over San Diego State, 17-12. The Bulldogs host UC Davis Saturday (Apr. 8) in an MPSF game.

OREGON (3-1 MPSF/7-5 Overall) dialed up a 17-12 win at George Mason on Mar. 27. Bella Pyne scored five goals and Cambi Cukar dished five assists in the win. Cukar jumped to fifth all-time in the MPSF with 110 career assists, also four away from the school record (Shannon Propst, 2011-14). Shannon Williams added four goals and two assists, while Mariah Gatti and Jill Zubillaga completed the Duck hat tricks. Oregon completed its non-conference schedule and an eight-game road swing with a 15-6 loss at No. 15 Virginia (Mar. 29). Williams finished with a 10-point week on six goals and four assists. The Ducks are at home for the first time since Feb. 19 when USC visits Friday (Apr. 7).

SAN DIEGO STATE (2-2 MPSF/8-4 Overall) defeated Brown at home last Friday (Mar. 31), 13-8. Ijeoma Ikpe posted career-highs of three goals, two assists and four ground balls. Two of her goals were in the midst of a 5-0 run to break a 1-1 tie. Katrina Reeves collected a season-high 14 saves and picked up five ground balls. The Aztecs came up short at Fresno State Monday (Apr. 3) and will host No. 9 USC Saturday (Apr. 8).

CALIFORNIA (0-3 MPSF/2-10 Overall) was edged by Brown last Wednesday (Mar. 29) in San Diego, 14-13, before the conference loss at USC on Sunday (Apr. 2). Cal hosts St. Mary’s Friday (Apr. 7).

ST. MARY’S (0-4 MPSF/1-9 Overall) resumes MPSF play at California Friday (Apr. 7). The Gaels fell 16-5 at San Diego State (Mar. 24), before returning home in a 21-14 loss to St. Francis Sunday (Mar. 26). Emily Mack scored four goals with one assist against St. Francis. Megan Zummo and Meagan Bennett each added a hat trick. Hanna Dalrymple had seven draw controls.
