HARLOWE STEELE OF SDSU MPSF OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

San Diego State junior midfield Harlowe Steele (Coquitlam, BC, Canada) tallied a career-high four goals on five shots (.800) in a 12-11 road win at California Saturday (Feb. 10). She scored the game-winner on a free-position shot with 28 seconds left to give the Aztecs their first season-opening win since 2014. She assisted on one of the Aztec goals during a crucial 4-0 run at the end of the first half which put SDSU in front 6-5 at halftime. Steele also had one ground ball and one draw control. OLIVIA MANNON OF FSU MPSF DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Fresno State sophomore defender Olivia Mannon (Birmingham, AL) finished the week with seven draw controls, nine caused turnovers, and seven ground balls through a 1-1 opening week (Feb. 9-11). She had a school record seven caused turnovers in the 8-6 win over La Salle, and recorded two other conference season-highs of five ground balls against La Salle and five draw controls against Binghamton. AZTECS, BULLDOGS WIN ON OPENING WEEKEND

SAN DIEGO STATE (0-0 MPSF/1-0 Overall) edged California on the road Sunday (Feb. 11) to open the season, 12-11. Harlowe Steele matched the MPSF opening weekend-high of five points, scoring a career-high four goals, including the game-winner with 28 seconds left. Katy Sharretts collected a career-high 13 saves. The outcome marked San Diego State’s first season-opening victory since 2014.

FRESNO STATE (0-0 MPSF/1-1 Overall) split its first two games of 2018, both played at La Salle, an 8-6 win over La Salle (Feb. 9) and a 14-8 loss vs. Binghamton (Feb. 11). Ryleigh Bone and Sarah Bloise each scored twice in the win, while Bloise shared a conference-high five draw controls. Olivia Mannon also had five draws in the win, as well as conference-highs of five ground balls and seven caused turnovers in the loss. Mannon’s seven caused turnovers is a school record and one shy of the all-time MPSF record. Mackenzie Wallevand had two goals, two assists, two ground balls, three draw controls and a caused turnover in her debut weekend.

UC DAVIS (0-0 MPSF/0-1 Overall) was edged in its season opener at home against California this past Friday (Feb. 9), 11-9. Taylor Cuenin and Amanda Outcalt accounted for all nine Aggie goals, a game and conference-high tying five by the former and four by the latter. Grace Richards collected a career-high 12 saves (.522). Sorana Larson had five draw controls, and Mar Alvear and Ally Deremer each picked up three ground balls. Alvear caused three turnovers.
