MPSF Women's Gymnastics Release 4
UC DAVIS tallied a 2017 MPSF-high 194.925 in a dual home win over rival Sacramento State last Sunday (Jan. 29). Rachel Kreager, Alexis Brown, and Yasmine Yektaparast each led top-three placements, while the floor squad hit 49 for the first time in 2017, with an MPSF all-event season-high (49.100). Kreager won uneven bars (9.85), Brown won the balance beam (9.85) and all-around (39.125), and Yektaparast took first on floor with an MPSF season-high tying score (9.875). Brown added a second-place tie with Sarah Liddle on bars (9.775), while Miranda Holder was runner-up on floor (9.85), as was Yektaparast on beam (9.825).
AIR FORCE won a road dual at Centenary (Jan. 29) with a season-high 192.000, behind season-high team scores on uneven bars, balance beam, and floor. Kara Witgen and Analise Howard led the Falcons with a share of two event titles. Witgen tallied a 9.750 to win the vault outright, while Howard posted a season-high 9.80 to share the title on bars. The pair also joined Riley Hill in a three-way tie for first on the beam behind scores of 9.775. Witgen went on to score a winning 38.450 in her first all-around of the season.
SEATTLE PACIFIC accumulated a season-high 191.500 in a home dual win over Hamline Friday (Jan. 27). The Falcons won every event, guided by Ariana Harger’s vault (9.80) and floor (2017 SPU-high 9.85), along with Darian Burns’ uneven bars (9.60) and all-around (38.100). The remaining title went to Kristi Hayashida on beam (9.70). Burns added a second-place vault (9.775), while Lauren Glover was second on floor (9.80). SPU had season team-highs on vault (48.675), bars (47.225), and floor (48.350).
ALASKA-ANCHORAGE won both of its home meets against Wisconsin-Stout last week, most recently with a season-high 189.650 (Jan. 23). Morgan Ross sealed the meet with a 2017 MPSF season-high tying 9.875 on floor, No. 10 in school history.
SAN JOSE STATE placed third at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, TX (Jan. 28), totaling 193.650, ahead of Bowling Green. Taylor Chan tied her career-high 9.850 on floor to win the event at the four-team meet, her first collegiate floor title. Erica Matos and Katie Won each scored a season-high 9.825 to tie for second on floor. The trio also led the floor team to a season-high 49.050, tying for the 14th-best floor score in school history. The Spartans’ home opener is Friday (Feb. 3) against UC Davis.
SACRAMENTO STATE collected 193.050 at UC Davis (Jan. 29), highlighted by a top-three sweep on vault by Alexis Belkoff (9.80), Caitlin Soliwoda and Julia Konner (9.775 each). Soliwoda went on to place second all-around (37.975).
