Complete Release in PDF Format NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP: No. 1 seed USC (29-0 overall) turned in an undefeated season by winning its fourth NCAA Championship in a 7-5 victory over No. 2 Stanford (25-6 overall) in Palo Alto Sunday (Dec. 7). The Trojans were behind 2-1 after the first quarter, but turned the game around quickly thereafter. USC won the second period 3-0 and the third 2-1 to open up a 6-3 advantage entering the final eight minutes. USC Junior Shea Buckner was the lone multiple-goal scorer in the game, recording a hat trick. Five Stanford players scored once. Both goalkeepers, freshman Joel Dennerley of USC and junior Jimmy Sandman of Stanford, collected 10 saves in the championship. USC junior J.W. Krumpholz was named NCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player. NCAA THIRD PLACE: No. 3 seed Loyola Marymount (21-10 overall) had no trouble with No. 4 seed Navy (20-11 overall) 11-4 for third place at Stanford's NCAA Championship. The Lions raced out to leads of 4-1 after one quarter and 9-1 at the half. NCAA SEMI-FINAL # 1: Navy jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, but USC took over from there. The Trojans used a 5-1 second quarter to take a 6-4 lead at the half, en route to a 14-9 NCAA Semi-Final win. Dennerley had 13 saves, while junior Matt Sagehorn led with four goals. Trojan Junior Justin Rappel added three.... NCAA SEMI-FINAL # 2: Sophomore Jeffrey Schwimer's only shot of the night proved to be the game-winner with 18 seconds left in regulation, lifting Stanford to a 6-5 win over No. 3 seed Loyola Marymount. The Cardinal entered the fourth quarter down 5-4. Sandman's 10th save in the cage was registered with four seconds remaining in the regulation. Junior Drac Wigo of the Cardinal scored twice in the semi-final win.... |
