CALIFORNIA (10-6 Overall, 1-2 MPSF) Collin Smith poured in six goals to lead the Bears' first conference win, 14-8 over rival Stanford this past Saturday in Berkeley. After trailing 4-3 after the first quarter, Cal used a 4-0 second quarter to help avenge a 9-8 NorCal loss to the Cardinal on Sept. 16. Jon Sibley had eight saves in goal. The Bears remain home to face Long Beach State Saturday (Oct. 27) in another MPSF game.
UCLA (19-2 Overall, 2-0 MPSF) posted two wins last week, including a 10-5 MPSF decision at No. 3 UCSB, avenging an earlier non-conference loss to the Gauchos. Lucas Reynolds accumulated a five-goal week, two in that win followed by a hat trick in Sunday's 13-6 outcome over UC San Diego. The Bruins host Pepperdine Thursday (Oct. 25) in an MPSF game.
USC (17-0 Overall, 3-0 MPSF) Kostas Genidounias put away five goals to lead a 13-7 MPSF win at Long Beach State last Friday. The Trojans raced out to a 5-0 lead by the second quarter. Mace Rapsey added two goals and James Clark recorded nine saves as goalkeeper. USC has three games this week, visiting UC Irvine and hosting Pacific in conference action, along with Cal Lutheran in non-conference.
PEPPERDINE (10-6 Overall, 2-1 MPSF) won two road games in Northern California, 19-9 at UC Davis and 9-6 at Pacific in MPSF play. Goalkeeper Bence Valics averaged nine saves over the two wins, and had seven in the first-half in Stockton. Spencer Hamby recorded a four-goal game in the conference win. The Waves stay on the road this week, visiting UCLA Thursday (Oct. 25) and UCSB Saturday (Oct. 27).
UC SANTA BARBARA (15-5 Overall, 1-2 MPSF) split a pair of conference games, falling to UCLA, 10-5, before bouncing back at UC Irvine, 13-7. Myles Christian accumulated a 32-save week, 18 in the win, while Evan Dellinger delivered a hat trick. Dylan Baliani and Jake Miller added two goals apiece at UCI. The Gauchos host Pepperdine Saturday in another MPSF game.
STANFORD (10-4 Overall, 2-2 MPSF) Bret Bonanni slammed in 14 goals in two games at Santa Clara this past Sunday, as the Cardinal routed Bucknell,14-2 and Air Force,14-3. The freshman recorded nine of his 14 against the Falcons, tying a 2012 season-high for an MPSF player. Stanford hosts UC Irvine Saturday (Oct. 27) and Long Beach State Sunday (Oct. 28) in a pair of conference games.
PACIFIC (9-6 Overall, 0-1 MPSF) dropped a 9-6 home outcome to Pepperdine this past Sunday. Kevin Oliveira, Casey Fleming, and Aleksandar Petrovic scored twice each. Alex Malkis blocked 10 shots in goal. The Tigers' lone game this week is at top-ranked USC Saturday.
LONG BEACH STATE (18-4 Overall, 0-1 MPSF) split a pair of 13-7 outcomes at home last week, defeating Loyola Marymount and falling to USC. True freshman Nolan McConnell led LBSU in the win with a career-high five goals while Devin Mefford chipped in three. The 49ers head to the Bay Area this weekend as conference play continues at California and Stanford.
UC IRVINE (14-5 Overall, 0-2 MPSF) returned home this past Sunday after playing 15 straight away from the Anteater Aquatics Complex, coming up short to UC Santa Barbara, 13-7. Bojan Hrlec recorded a hat trick, and Winston Newland and Mitch Wise scored twice. UCI hosts USC Thursday and visits Stanford Saturday.

California junior Collin Smith (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad HS) guided a 14-8 MPSF win over No. 4 Stanford this past Saturday. He scored a game-high six goals, including three in the third period, and two back-to-back with 58 and 32 seconds left in that quarter. He added two goals in the fourth period to finish with five goals in the final 16 minutes of the contest. Smith becomes a two-time winner of this award in 2012 (Sept. 10)...
