USC garnished seven of nine first-place votes and 63 total points in taking the No. 1 spot in the 2008 MPSF preseason men's water polo coaches' poll. The Trojans return several All-Americans from last year's MPSF Tournament Championship and national runner-up team. Their 2008 roster is highlighted by Olympian J.W. Krumpholz, as well as All-Americans Matt Sagehorn, Shea Buckner, and Jovan Vranes. Stanford took second in the poll, returning all of its scoring leaders from '07, claiming 53 points along with one first-place vote. Back-to-back defending national champion California came in third with 49 points and one first-place vote. UCLA was right behind in fourth with 46 points after a 21-7 season last year. Pepperdine totaled 36 points in fifth, while UC Santa Barbara was not far behind in sixth with 32. Long Beach State, UC Irvine, and Pacific rounded out this year's coaches' poll. A handful of MPSF Teams begin their 2008 season on Saturday, September 6, at the annual UC San Diego Invitational.
