DAVID WIECZOREK OF PEPPERDINE MPSF/MOLTEN OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Pepperdine redshirt junior outside hitter David Wieczorek (Chicago, IL/Loyola Academy) was instrumental in the Waves' sweep over Princeton last Saturday (Feb. 3), recording 15 kills with a career-high .650 hitting clip. He added three aces, three blocks, two digs, and finished with 19.5 points. Wieczorek averaged 6.50 points/set, 5.00 kills/set, 1.00 aces/set, 1.00 blocks/set and 0.67 digs/set in the win, while also going a perfect 17-for-17 on serve receptions. GARLAND PEED OF UCLA MPSF/MOLTEN DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

UCLA freshman libero Garland Peed (San Diego, CA/Torrey Pines HS) tallied a team-high 15 digs across seven sets (2.14 D/S) and handled 43 serves with just one error (.977) in Bruin wins last week over Princeton (Feb. 1) and at No. 4 UC Irvine (Feb. 3). He picked up six digs and handled 20 serves without a reception error against Princeton. Peed then led the team with nine digs and was 22-for-23 on serve receptions at UCI. BRUINS POST ANOTHER QUALITY ROAD WIN; MPSF PLAY OPENS THIS WEEK

No. 2 UCLA (0-0 MPSF/10-1 Overall) defeated its second-straight top-four road opponent on Saturday (Feb. 3), 3-1 at No. 4 UC Irvine, on the heels of snapping No. 3 Hawaii's 26-match home win streak. The Bruins fired off a season-high .455 hitting percentage at UCI, guided by 56 assists from Micah Ma'a. Christian Hessenauer led with 15 kills (.400), followed by 14 apiece from JT Hatch (.500) and Daenan Gyimah (.619), as well as Dylan Missry's 13 kills (.391). UCLA tied a school record with 15 aces in last Thursday's (Feb. 1) 3-0 home sweep over Princeton. That ace production is a 2018 MPSF-high, as is the six served by Ma'a, who also guided a .414 team offense. Missry hit .472 for the week (22-5-36) and served six aces. Garland Peed totaled 15 digs and was 42-for-43 on receptions for the week. CSUN visits Westwood on Tuesday (Feb. 6) in the final tune-up before MPSF action, which begins Thursday (Feb. 8) at Concordia. Saturday (Feb. 10), UCLA visits Grand Canyon in another conference match.

No. 10 GRAND CANYON (0-0 MPSF/10-2 Overall) stormed back from a 2-1 set deficit to win at Lindenwood in five (Feb. 2). Cullen Mosher posted a double-double on 12 kills and 12 digs, while adding five blocks. Grand Canyon then made it four-straight wins and stayed unbeaten on the road with a 3-1 outcome at McKendree (Feb. 3). Mosher led all players with 15 kills and eight digs, while Luke Turner added 14 kills off the bench on a .481 attack percentage. The Antelopes host Pepperdine (Feb. 8) and UCLA (Feb. 10) in their first-ever MPSF week.

No. 11 PEPPERDINE (0-0 MPSF/4-2 Overall) swept Princeton at home Saturday (Feb. 3), as David Wieczorek had an all-around stat line of 15 kills on .650 hitting, three aces, three blocks, and was a perfect 17-for-17 on receptions. Michael Wexter hit an errorless .727 (8-0-11). Winners of three-straight matches, the Waves open MPSF play this week on the road, traveling to Grand Canyon Thursday (Feb. 8) and Concordia Saturday (Feb. 10).

STANFORD (0-0 MPSF/2-8 Overall) snapped a four-match skid at UC San Diego (Feb. 3), winning 3-1 behind a career-night from Eric Beatty, who had 18 kills (.364). Russell Dervay dished a career-high 45 assists and collected eight digs, and Kevin Rakestraw added 10 kills (.381). Libero Evan Enriques played outside hitter and was 4 for an errorless 12 (.333) with two block solos and eight digs in the win. Stanford visits USC Thursday (Feb. 8) at 7 pm on Pac-12 Networks in the MPSF opener for both teams, before the Card travels to CSUN Saturday (Feb. 10).

No. 7 BYU (0-0 MPSF/6-4 Overall) avenged a first night's 3-0 loss to No. 14 UC Santa Barbara, with a sweep of its own the next night (Feb. 2-3). Gabi Garcia Fernandez and Brenden Sander led the team in kills with 18 and 10, respectively. Zach Hendrickson picked up a career-high 10 digs. Garcia Fernandez totaled 30 kills (5.00 K/S) with a. 415 clip for the series. BYU travels to UC San Diego Thursday (Feb. 8) and then heads to USC Saturday (Feb. 10) for its MPSF opener.

CONCORDIA (0-0 MPSF/3-3 Overall) Hunter Howell recorded 20 kills with a blistering .643 attack in a four-set home win over Hope International (Jan. 29). He added five blocks. Jon Predney had a stat line of 15 kills, eight digs, and three blocks. The Eagles, coming off a loss at No. 1 Long Beach State (Feb. 2), play their first-ever MPSF contest Thursday (Feb. 8) at home against No. 2 UCLA. CUI then continues three-straight days of matches by hosting UC San Diego Friday (Feb. 9) and returning to MPSF play Saturday (Feb. 10) against Pepperdine.

No. 14 USC (0-0 MPSF/3-7 Overall) dropped a pair of road matches at MIVA opponents, No. 7 Lewis (Feb. 2) and No. 8 Loyola-Chicago (Feb. 3). The first set's 42-40 outcome at Lewis tied the all-time Trojan record for most points scored and surrendered in a set, dating to 1970 (42-40 set two last year at UCI). At Loyola, Jack Wyett led USC with a match-best 16 kills, while Sam Lewis added 10 kills (.333). Cole Paxson had 13 digs. USC plays just its second home match when Stanford visits on Thursday. The Trojans also host BYU Saturday.
