MPSF Volleyball Release 3

UCLA (0-0 MPSF/7-0 Overall) stayed unbeaten on the young season with a pair of home wins in the AVCA Showcase over back-to-back defending NCAA Champion and No. 3 Ohio State (3-2) as well as No. 9 Penn State (3-1). Daenan Gyimah was a combined 17 for an errorless 28 swinging (.607) with three aces in the two wins, including a career-high .800 clip (8-0-10) vs. the Lions. Christian Hessenauer tallied a 19-kill, 13-dig double-double against the Buckeyes. The No. 2 Bruins (7-0) travel to No. 3 Hawaii (6-0) for two matches this week (Jan. 26-28). UCLA will attempt to snap Hawaii's 25-match home win streak, as well as the Warriors' 5-year run without a regular season non-conference loss.

CONCORDIA (0-0 MPSF/2-1 Overall) pulled off a huge early season surprise at then unbeaten No. 7 CSUN last Friday (Jan. 19), winning in four sets. Chandler Gibb recorded a double-double on 40 assists and 10 digs, guiding an overall .291 team attack, which included a .560 performance in the fourth set to help seal the win. PEPPERDINE (0-0 MPSF/1-2 Overall) dropped a four-set home match to UC Santa Barbara (Jan. 20), as Weston Barnes picked up 10 digs and was a perfect 31-for-31 on receptions. In spite of the outcome, it was a special night in Malibu.
