SACRAMENTO STATE (3-0-1 overall, 0-0-0 MPSF) remained unbeaten with a tie vs. UC Irvine, 1-1, and a win over Houston Baptist, 2-0 at the St. Mary's Tournament. In Sunday's win, the Hornets scored a 19th-minute "own goal," followed by senior Blake Nunes' 23rd-minute strike assisted by sophomore Ernesto Carranza. In Friday's tie, freshman all-tournament Adam Bettencourt knocked in the game-tying goal with less than five minutes left in regulation. Freshman Brian Oliver registered nine saves. Sac State hosts Menlo Friday and St. Mary's Sunday.

UNLV (3-1-0 overall, 0-0-0 MPSF) senior John Crawley scored an unassisted second-minute goal Friday as the Rebels edged the host Titans in the CS Fullerton Tournament, 1-0. Senior goalkeeper Hawk Mummey notched his second shutout and collected nine saves. The win marked just the third time in history that UNLV owned a 3-0 record, dating back 35 years. The Rebels were shutout 2-0 by CS Northridge Sunday to conclude the tourney. UNLV hosts the Nike Invitational this weekend, facing Gonzaga Friday and Oral Roberts Sunday.

#23 NEW MEXICO (2-1-1 overall, 0-0-0 MPSF) split two games in the TLC Plumbing and Utility Invitational, winning 3-2 over Michigan State, before falling 2-1 in double-overtime to Louisville. The Lobos erased an early 1-0 deficit against the Spartans when senior Jack Smithson scored in the 12th-minute. Freshman Michael Green contributed a first half goal, and added an assist. Senior all-tournament Chris Wright scored in the loss. The No. 23 Lobos stay home this week, taking on Akron Friday and Cal Poly Sunday in the Nike Invitational.

DENVER (0-3-0 overall, 0-0-0 MPSF) came up short 3-2 against No. 30 Loyola-Chicago in the home opener for the Pioneers Friday. Senior Colin Jones knocked in his second goal of the year in the second half, and would add an assist late in the game. Denver remains home this week as a pair of Southern California schools visit, San Diego State Friday (Sept. 12) and Cal State Fullerton Sunday (Sept. 14).

AIR FORCE (0-3-0 overall, 0-0-0 MPSF) dropped its home opener 1-0 to No. 30 Loyola-Chicago Sunday. The Ramblers scored the lone goal of the game in the 11th-minute. The Falcons look for their first win Friday (Sept. 12) at Cadet Stadium against Cal State Fullerton.

SAN JOSE STATE (1-0-1 overall, 0-0-0 MPSF) had an exhibition contest Thursday against NCAA DIII opponent Cal State East Bay, winning 6-1. Sophomore Ricky Dorrego scored twice in the second half, while freshman Oscar Yniguez provided one goal and two assists. The Spartans conclude a season-long five-game homestand Wednesday night (Sept. 10) against the University of San Francisco.

BETTENCOURT MPSF BRINE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Woodland, Calif. - Sacramento State redshirt freshman midfielder Adam Bettencourt (Hilmar, CA/Hilmar HS) scored the game-tying goal in the 86th-minute Friday against undefeated UC Irvine, as the Hornets stayed unbeaten on the year. Bettencourt was named to the all-tournament team at St. Mary's, following his 200-minute weekend in the Hornet midfield.
