Stanford Opens With Tri-Meet Win

No. 5 STANFORD opened the 2018 season with a 402.150 team score to defeat No. 10 California (390.000) and SC United (291.450). The Cardinal claimed four team and event titles. Robert Neff took three event titles; All-Around (82.850), pommel horse (13.800) and high bar (14.200). Stanford posted matching 67.850 winning team scores on parallel bars and still rings. Thomas Lee won a title in his collegiate debut with a 13.900 on rings. Stanford returns to action as it travels to face Illinois-Chicago and Iowa at UIC on Sunday (Jan. 21).

No. 10 CALIFORNIA opened its season with two career-highs (pommel horse, parallel bars) and a pair of event wins (Vault, floor) from Aaron Mah in the Cal Benefit Cup (Jan. 13). The Golden Bears finished second with a 390.000 total, just behind meet champion Stanford (402.150) and ahead of SC United (291.450). Mah won vault (14.200) and floor (14.000) and was the runner-up in the all-around (80.700). Yordan Aleksandrov won parallel bars (14.350). The Bears compete on the road for the next two months, first heading to Stanford on Jan. 27, Feb. 10 and Mar. 3.

No. 11 AIR FORCE opened the 2018 season with a fourth-place finish at its annual Rocky Mountain Open last Saturday (Jan. 13). Fletcher Braunton paced the Falcons with a runner-up finish on the still rings (14.650) – the third-highest mark in Academy history. Michael Graft recorded a 13.800 to tie for seventh on the rings, while Frankie Valentin scored a 13.750 to tie for ninth. Air Force hosts three-time defending NCAA Champion Oklahoma Saturday (Jan. 20).

No. 1 OKLAHOMA opens its year at Air Force Saturday (Jan. 20). The Sooners have won the last three NCAA and six MPSF Championships.
