Cal Poly, USD Win to Wrap 2017

CAL POLY Nolan Newland, Brian Whittington, Bonnie Diamond and Emily Imfeld each won two events as Cal Poly competed in a double dual at San Diego State (Dec. 22). The Mustang men defeated Air Force, 175-119. The women beat Air Force 215-72 but fell to SDSU, 165-132. Newland won the 1000 free (9:33.70), six seconds faster than second place. He later won the 500 free (4:34.77). Whittington won the 100 breast (56.26) and 200 breast (2:04.64). Diamond won the women’s 200 free (1:53.29) and 500 free (5:02.06), while Imfeld won the 50 free (23.84) and followed that up with a win in the 100 free (51.63). Cal Poly divers are in action at the UCLA Diving Invitational on Jan. 12. Noah McKinley had the high score on the men’s one-meter (265.80), while Riley Saufley finished first on the men’s 3-meter (283.05) at SDSU.

SAN DIEGO Kailyn Evans posted the winning time in the 100 breast (1:06.76), while Alex Hubel finished first in the 100 fly (57.13) to lead the Toreros in defeating CSU East Bay (173-98) and against Northern Arizona (100-174) on Dec. 16. Danielle Taylor posted top-five results in each of her events, placing second in the 100 back (58.67), third in the 50 free (24.45) and fourth in the 100 free (53.30). The Toreros host the USD Shootout on Jan. 6.
